Independent Pre-Preparatory and Preparatory School
for boys in Hampstead, London NW3
A
The School's Pre-Preparatory Department admits boys from the ages of four to six (Reception to Year Two).
The Head of Department oversees the children’s development from Reception through to Year Two, after which they feed into the Main School at seven-plus.
The class teachers each work with a classroom assistant, providing a good pupil teacher ratio, so that there is ample scope for individual help and support.
The curriculum covers the Early Learning Goals, and progress through and beyond Key Stage One work.
The emphasis is on the acquisition and perfecting of basic skills in literacy and numeracy, but combined with a range of work and constructive play to fill the boys’ lives with inspiration, stimulation and fun.
Learning the pleasure of discovery has always been a part of life at Lyndhurst House, and much individual attention is given to each boy. There are light, cheerful and well-equipped classrooms, and time is spent each day at play.
The Pre-Prep classes follow their own timetable and have separate play-times, but join the main school regularly for Assemblies, and there is a "buddy" system with older boys, so that they feel very much part of the whole school community.
The School opens at 8.20 a.m., and boys should be brought in before 8.40 a.m. Home-time is at 3.00 p.m. for Reception and 3.30 p.m. for Years One and Two.
To allow Reception boys to settle in and adjust to the length of the school day, for the first few weeks they may be collected at 2.00 p.m. Please let the Reception teacher know in writing if you intend to do this. From the fourth week of term we would expect all boys to attend for the full day.
School lunches are provided. The boys eat with their teachers.
